Valuable Tips

Build relationships with your students.

Know your students and know them well.

Teach students what their individual differences are... Make them realize that everyone is starting at different spots in your classroom.

Focus on the needs of each of your students every day.

Collect data on your students and analyze it carefully.

High school and Middle school teachers could identify essential skills for the year.  How do you measure the skills?  How will you provide your students extra instruction if they are not getting it?  Look at what causes the students to fail your class?

Diagnose the student's problem carefully before beginning any type of intervention.

Form smart groups for intervention and make sure that the neediest students get the more knowledgeable teachers.

Be prepared and ready to go each day.

Commit to sacred time - No Interruptions!

When working with small groups, have the table cleaned and materials ready to go.  (You are wasting students' time if you have to clean off your table and locate teaching materials.)

Never assign homework that students do not know how to do.  This frustrates the students and parents.

Assessment is used to improve the quality of teaching and learning.

Remember to make the enrichment groups educationally based.  This is a time to challenge those learners.
