A+ SCHOOLS PROGRAM BENEFITS
Sullivan High School was designated an A+ School by the State of Missouri in the year 2000. Graduating students are now eligible for TUITION AND FEES (as state funds are available) to a community college or public vocational/technical school of their choice in Missouri. These incentives will be made available after the student has made a good faith effort to secure all available federal post-secondary student financial assistance funds that do not require repayment. The tuition incentives will only be made available to reimburse the unpaid balance of the cost of tuition, general fees and up to fifty percent (50%) of the book cost (subject to legislative appropriation) after the federal postsecondary student financial assistance funds have been applied to these costs. Textbooks are currently not covered.
Students will receive this incentive for TWO years from the State of Missouri, not Sullivan School District. A student must be considered a FULL-TIME student by the post-secondary institution. Students must complete the two years of full-time enrollment at a community college or public vocational/technical school within FOUR years after graduation from Sullivan High School.
To be eligible for the financial incentives of the A+ School Program, a student must be certified as an A+ Student by Sullivan High School. As the official representative of the A+ School Program with the Department of Education of the State of Missouri, the A+ Schools Coordinator has the responsibility to determine whether Sullivan High School graduates meet the following certification criteria:
Sign a Sullivan High School A+ Participation Agreement
Attend Sullivan High School or another A+ school for the three consecutive years prior to graduation from Sullivan High School
Maintain at least a 2.5 grade point average
Maintain a 95% attendance record
Perform 50 hours of unpaid tutoring or mentoring for academically younger students
Maintain a record of good citizenship and avoidance of the unlawful use of drugs
The tuition incentives will be made available, subject to legislative appropriation, only after the student has made documented good faith effort to first secure all available federal post-secondary student financial assistance funds that do not require repayment
Register for Selective Service, if applicable
A summary sheet advising the parent of student progress toward achieving A+ School status will be mailed each semester. A final summary sheet will be mailed after graduation and a student’s final A+ status is determined.
The A+ Schools program is designed to achieve the three basic goals set forth in the Outstanding Schools Act of 1993.
All students will graduate from high school.
All students will complete a selection of high school studies that is challenging and has identified learning expectations.
All students will proceed from high school graduation to a college or post-secondary vocational/technical school or high-wage job with work place skills development opportunities.
All projects and efforts of the A+ Schools Program in the Sullivan School District are designed to achieve the three basic goals listed above.
All seniors must fill out the FAFSA info and give a confirmation letter to Mr. Kealen by May 1st, 2011. You can do this by clicking the link below.
