Sullivan School District Announces New Program-- Afterschool

Afterschool is a new program which began on November 2nd under the leadership of the newly appointed Coordinator, Judi Pierre.  This program is offered to primary (K-1st grade), elementary, and middle school students.  Sessions run Monday through Friday from immediately after school until 5:30 p.m.

The program is housed in the elementary building which is centrally located and provides easy parent access.  Parents with children attending different schools will find the one pickup location a plus.  And, the 5:30 pickup allows travel time for the working parent.

When children arrive at Afterschool, they receive a healthy snack and time to let off some steam before settling in to homework.  Children struggling in certain areas will receive additional tutoring help.  With homework completed, students can then choose from a variety of enrichment programs designed to peak their interest and stimulate social interaction.  Fantastic Fridays are open for expanded activities and field trips.  Students will reap the rewards of a week’s schoolwork well done.

Sullivan’s previous after school program was funded by a state grant, which has now expired.  This year’s program is self-sustaining, requiring a weekly fee to cover the cost incurred in providing the service.  The fee is $30 per week for the 5-day service.  Enrollment forms are available at the links listed below.

“New and exciting enrichment activities are being developed in art, music, technology, sports, cooking, fitness, dance, science, conservation, animal husbandry, career spotlights, and many more areas,” says Afterschool Coordinator, Judi Pierre.  “Parent input is valuable as the program will be constantly evolving to best suit the interests and needs of our students.  We want kids to go home hassle-free with the self-satisfaction that their homework is completed, and they have had fun with their peers.”

“We invite comments or suggestions to help make Afterschool the best it can be,” states Pierre.  Ms. Pierre can be reached at 573-860-2116.
